For International Women’s Day, we’re spotlighting some of the talented women at Pulsant and their experiences in the tech industry. In this Q&A, we spoke with Helen Brash, a Project Manager who has been with Pulsant for over 18 years, about her role, career insights, and proudest moments.
How would you describe your job to someone who doesn't work in tech?
"As a Project Manager, my job is to ensure that projects are successfully delivered on time and within budget. That means planning, organising, and leading a team to achieve the project’s objectives. A big part of my role is making sure that everyone knows what they need to do, that tasks are completed on schedule, and that any challenges are addressed along the way to avoid wider disruption to the overall project. Ultimately, I help turn ideas into reality by keeping everything on track and ensuring a smooth process from start to finish."
What’s the most unexpected skill you’ve picked up since joining the company?
"One of the most unexpected skills I’ve developed is the ability to manage stress and pressure—not just for myself, but for my team as well. Project management isn’t just about meeting deadlines; it’s also about creating an environment where people can perform at their best. Learning more about mental health and well-being, with support from our People team, has helped me build stronger relationships with my team, support them through challenges, and ultimately foster a more positive and productive workplace."
If you could give your 10-year-old self one piece of career advice, what would it be?
"Never be afraid to ask questions – I ask about 100 a day! Curiosity is one of the best skills you can develop. Keep learning, stay open to new experiences, and have confidence in yourself—you’re capable of more than you think."
What’s your favourite memory or proudest moment working at Pulsant?
"One of my proudest moments at Pulsant was successfully completing the Pulsant Cloud Migration Project. This involved migrating a large number of customers from existing platforms to the new Pulsant Private Cloud within a very short time frame. It was a challenging but rewarding experience, and seeing everything come together made all the hard work worth it."
What’s your dream project or initiative you’d love to lead?
"I’d love to lead a large-scale colocation project across multiple sites with a complex WAN solution. The challenge of coordinating multiple moving parts, ensuring seamless connectivity, and delivering a transformative solution for our clients would be incredibly exciting."
