Can you tell us about your role and your journey with Pulsant so far?
"My current role is Director of Partnerships & Ecosystems. I initially joined to run the sales teams in Scotland and the North East, which I did for two years. As Pulsant was increasing its focus on our edge strategy, I then moved into a role to build out a go to market plan for Smart Cities. When I was building that strategy, it became obvious that we would need a partner ecosystem of organisations to serve those cities with the sort of (edge based) solutions that we were talking about. We didn’t have a partner programme at the time and luckily for me, Mark and Rob gave me the opportunity to build one from scratch. So, it was exciting and it really was a great growth opportunity for me. They just believed in me to go and make that happen."
What is Pulsant like to work for?
"Pulsant has lots of tenured, capable people. There's a real spirit of collaboration and it’s a lovely size - around 300 people - so everyone's available to everyone. It’s also not egotistical and there’s quite a flat structure; you can pick up the phone to anyone at any time."
How does the business support you to thrive personally and professionally?
"The best example for me is when they took a leap of faith and said I could move out of the Sales Director role into building out the Smart Cities go to market. I didn't have experience in doing that, but I understood where we were going as a business and they gave me the freedom to just go and build it. I felt that was quite a big investment in me as opposed to just in the role."
What has been the secret to your career success to date?
"It’s an overused phrase now, but for me it’s having a sense of purpose. I think that can change over the course of your working life, but it’s ultimately what drives you. Also, I’m really interested in people’s stories and what makes them tick – whether that’s an individual or an organisation. I love working in the tech sector. I love that it changes all the time and there’s always something new to learn."
Do you have any advice for someone who wants to work for Pulsant?
"Do it! I love the fact that we've got the grad programme and our People team give a lot of thought into how we develop people's careers and support their wellbeing. At Pulsant we're big enough to be able to go and make a difference, but we're small enough that people feel visible."
