Tell me about yourself and your role at Pulsant.
I've been with Pulsant for ten years, and it's been quite a journey. I started as a data centre engineer and have gradually worked my way up to become a data centre manager. My role is incredibly dynamic and demanding, but I love the challenge. It involves overseeing the day-to-day operations of one of our data centres, managing a team of technicians, ensuring that our infrastructure is running smoothly, and collaborating with other departments to maintain our high standards of service.
What attracted you to Pulsant and the DC market in particular?
I was initially drawn to Pulsant by their reputation for innovation and their commitment to providing world-class data centre solutions. The data centre industry is constantly evolving, and I've always been fascinated by the technical challenges and opportunities it presents. Plus, the chance to work with cutting-edge technology and contribute to the digital infrastructure was too exciting to pass up.
What is about the culture that you enjoy and has made you stay for so long?
Pulsant feels like a family. The people here are incredibly supportive and understanding. I remember a particularly challenging time when my father was ill. My colleagues and our CPO in particular were incredible, allowing me to focus on my family without worrying about my job. That kind of support is invaluable.
That support extends to training and development opportunities, which have helped me grow both personally and professionally throughout my career. Additionally, the company's focus on innovation and sustainability is something I'm truly passionate about.
How has leadership helped you overcome issues you faced when in a new job and unsure of what to do?
When I first stepped up as Data Centre Manager, I was thrown in at the deep end. I was responsible for managing a team and ensuring that our data centre was running smoothly, and I felt a bit overwhelmed at the detail involved in managing M&E as well as the operational side of the role. However, the leadership team was incredibly supportive. They provided me with guidance, mentorship, and the resources I needed to succeed. I'll never forget the time I was struggling to troubleshoot a complex technical issue. I reached out to another manager for help, and they took the time to listen and offer solutions. It was a real turning point for me.
How has your role evolved since you started, and what new opportunities have opened up for you?
My role has evolved significantly over the years. I've taken on more responsibility, expanded my technical knowledge, and developed my leadership skills. Pulsant has provided me with numerous opportunities for growth and advancement. I've been involved in some exciting projects, from implementing new technologies to overseeing major upgrades to our data centre infrastructure.
What advice would you give to others about taking opportunities to learn and grow?
Remember, my journey at Pulsant wasn't always a smooth road. It took hard work, dedication, and a willingness to learn to reach my current position. But it's possible. Don't just do the minimum; go above and beyond and be proactive in seeking out new opportunities. Never stop learning. Embrace new technologies and processes, and be willing to step outside of your comfort zone. Build strong relationships with your colleagues and be willing to help others. This can lead to new opportunities and recognition. Finally, take advantage of the internal opportunities Pulsant offers. The company is committed to developing its people, so be proactive in seeking out promotions and new projects. Remember, your career path is unique to you. But by following these principles, you can achieve your goals and make a meaningful impact at Pulsant."
How has the culture at Pulsant enabled you to develop a strong career path?
Pulsant has a fantastic culture that encourages learning and growth. They’re always willing to offer opportunities to those who are eager to take on new challenges. I really appreciate that. When I was promoted to DCM, I wasn’t a fully rounded manager, but they knew I was capable of learning on the job and working hard to make it a success. That’s what makes Pulsant such a great place to work.
